MXR Bass Compressor – Sound Clips 1

Bass: Fender Jazz (1972, passive tone control neutral)

Strings: Dunlop Rounds (nickels, 45 – 105, used)

Cable: DiMarzio EP1700

Interface: SPL Crimson

DAW: Logic Pro X

Drums: Toontrack EZ Drummer

The central parameter in the first rounds of sound clips is the RATIO. Since I am using a passive Fender Jazz bass, the INPUT setting begins at 50%. Then – for each RATIO variation – there are 3 different INPUT settings: 50%, 75% and 100%, each driving the compression circuit a little harder than the previous.

But first, take a quick listen to the DRY version, so you know what the bass sounds like on its own.

The next round builds on the same concept, demonstrating the RATIO 8 setting…
