Round 1: P Fingers
First off, I wanted to run my Nordy P/J through the VT Bass DI. To find out how it would cope with a nice and beefy Precision tone, I completely bypassed the bridge pickup and chose the active mode, but with the Bass and Treble controls of the preamp in the neutral position. Let’s hear what the dry bass sounds like:
Nothing wrong with that tone as such, but why not try to make it even fatter and punchier by adding a slight 10-15% LOW and MID bump and at the same time bring the HIGH down by roughly the same amount. Also, I added about 25% DRIVE, set the CHARACTER right in the middle and put the BLEND knob in the 1-2 o’clock position. Finally, the BITE switch is off. Sounds like this:
Yes, definitely adds a chunkier vibe and just a touch of crunch. Now let’s punch in the BITE.
I really love what the BITE adds to the tone here. Certainly gives the tone an edge that really cuts through. Let’s move on to Round 2: P Slap…
