Walrus Deep Six Compressor – Sound Clips 1

Bass: Fender Jazz (1972, passive tone control neutral)

Strings: Dunlop Rounds (nickels, 45 – 105, used)

Cable: DiMarzio EP1700

Interface: SPL Crimson

DAW: Logic Pro X

Drums: Toontrack EZ Drummer

In the first couple of rounds, we’re using our ‘classic’ compressor test file that is a simple 4-bar groove that moves between muted playing and occasional slapping. The idea is that these playing styles are quite different by nature in terms of dynamics. So, please listen closely to how much the sound is being squeezed along the way.

In this round, we’ll set the BLEND to affect the full signal and then turn the SUSTAIN knob bit by bit, but first listen to the DRY version to know what the completely uncompressed sound is like.

In the next round, we’ll use the same sound example, dial the SUSTAIN knob back to 50% and then turn the ATTACK control gradually.
